One-hitter ends trip for Suns

HICKORY, N.C. - Jose Luis Lopez took a perfect game into the sixth inning and finished with the third one-hitter in Hickory Crawdads history to beat the Hagerstown Suns 3-0 Tuesday night.

Lopez was perfect through 5 2/3 innings before walking Shawn Pearson, and lost the no-hitter in the seventh on Brandon Jackson's double to left. However, Lopez struck out a season-high 10 - including Shannon Carter three times - to improve his record to 2-4.

The Suns, who finished their road trip 3-5, could do nothing to back up Peter Bauer, who lost his first professional decision. Bauer also had a no-hitter through three innings, but gave up an unearned run in the fourth and a two-run homer to Josh Bonifay with one out in the fifth that finished his night.

Hagerstown (13-18, 47-54) has an off day today before beginning an eight-game homestand Thursday night at Municipal Stadium, hosting Charleston (W.Va.) and Delmarva in a pair of four-game sets.
