Area Roundup - Hagerstown Braves win regular-season finale


The Hagerstown Braves completed their regular season Sunday with a 5-0 victory over the Chambersburg Rockies at Municipal Stadium.

Atlee Martz had three hits and two RBI and Dan Cunningham had three hits and an RBI for Hagerstown, which will receive a first-round bye in the playoffs. The Braves (28-2, 34-4 overall) will begin second-round play on Friday or Saturday.

Deron Crawford (6-1) picked up the win, but Nate Reeser pitched the first three innings, Scott Frye threw two innings and Jamus Peterman finished up as the Braves went with pitching by committee.


Brandenburg Tournament

Brunswick 4, Federal 3: Austin Darlington struck out 15 while tossing a no-hitter for Brunswick. Tommy Cline and Larry Hottle had two hits for Brunswick.


American 10, National 9: Gerald Tonsil, A.J. Lockley and Chris Bill combined on a three-hitter, Billy Campbell had four hits and three RBI, including the game-winner, and Caesar Smith had two hits for American.

Conococheague 9, West End 4: Steven Clavette, Matt Oliver and Austin Taylor combined on an 11-strikeouts, three-hitter and Mike Fredlock had three hits and Taylor and Clavette had two hits for Conococheague.

Sharpsburg 20, Maugansville 7: Dryan Cole struck out nine and allowed three hits, Tyler Marshall had three hits, Dan Schell and Tashana Remsburg had two hits for Sharpsburg. Kyle Watters had two hits for Maugansville.

River City Classic

Conococheague 9, Federal 2: Greg Minnick had three hits and two RBI, Eric Wilfong and Adam Taylor had two hits and Taylor struck out eight for Conococheague.

Sharpsburg 12, Hancock 4: Cody Snavely and Alex Jamison had two hits for Sharpsburg and Derek Shives had two hits for Hancock.

Clear Spring 13, Valley 3: Brett Turner and Chipper Mellott had two hits for Clear. Spring.

National 4, West End 3: Winning pitcher Allen Barnett had two hits.

Maugansville 7, American 3: Winning pitcher Aaron Mills and Derek Keener each had two hits.

South Mountain 7, Halfway 1: Jared Ferguson threw a two-hitter with five strikeouts for South Mountain.

PONY League Sectional Tournament

The Hagerstown A All-Stars swept Chambersburg 5-2 and 7-2 to win the sectional tournament. Hagerstown advances to the regional tournament in Poland, Ohio, where it will open play Thursday at 11 a.m.

Sunday's games - Hagerstown A 5, Chambersburg 2: Nick Adenhart fired a one-hitter with 10 strikeouts and Jeremy Everitts and Drew Crawford each had two hits for Hagerstown.

Hagerstown 7, Chambersburg 2: T.J. Hose scattered five hits and struck out six to lead Hagerstown. Jeremy Everitts and Drew Crawford each had two hits.

Saturday's games - Chambersburg 2, Hagerstown A 1: David Miner homered, while Josh Mitchell threw a three-hitter with nine strikeouts for Hagerstown. Eric Chamberlain threw a four-hitter with eight strikeouts for Chambersburg.

Hagerstown A 12, Mid-Maryland 3 6: Matt Petro had three hits, while Jeremy Everitts, Drew Crawford and David Miner all had two for Hagerstown.

13-year-old PONY

Hagerstown 11, Cincinnati West 1: Jay Love and Brent Toms had three hits, A.J. Bandeff had two hits, Matt Ridenour hit a home run and Brandon Painter threw a one-hitter for Hagerstown.

Cincinnati Force 7, Hagerstown 6: Toms had two hits, including a home run, and Ridenour had two hits for Hagerstown.
