Suspect flees police station

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Police in Martinsburg are searching for a man who fled the police department last week while being processed on a drug charge, police said.

The incident started Thursday, when officers responded to the intersection of Race and Raleigh streets for a reported large fight in progress.

There was no fight when police arrived.

Patrolman Terry Shetley arrested Wallace Johnson and charged him with obstructing an officer and possession with intent to deliver crack cocaine, police said. Police said they found about five grams of suspected cocaine.

After Johnson was photographed and fingerprinted, he was placed in a room and handcuffed, police said. He freed himself from the handcuffs and fled out the back of the police department, police said.
