Frederick woman dies from wreck injuries



FREDERICK, Md. - A Jefferson, Md., woman who was injured in a two-car crash at the intersection of U.S. 15 and Mountville Road Thursday morning died at Washington County Hospital on Friday, Maryland State Police reported.

Police said Christine McDonald, 48, was attempting to cross U.S. 15 from Mountville when her 1991 Toyota pick-up truck collided with a 1999 Dodge Durango driven by Lynn Robert Axel Christensen, 32, of Frederick.

Christensen received minor injuries in the 7:50 a.m. accident and was not hospitalized.

McDonald's 13-year-old son, who was a passenger in her truck, was treated at Frederick Memorial Hospital and released.

Man charged with theft at gas pump



A Hedgesville, W.Va., man was charged with four offenses after a motorist drove away from a Texaco service station on Washington Avenue Friday morning without paying for gas, Hagerstown Police reported.

A total of $42.50 worth of gas was pumped at the station.

The truck involved in the incident was later seen in the 300 block of Washington Street, said Lt. Margaret Kline.

The truck stopped on Potomac Street, and when a police officer walked toward the truck, the driver drove off, Kline said.

The truck later stopped on Virginia Avenue, Kline said.

Delbert Edward Bowen, 43, of Route 2, Hedgesville, was charged with misdemeanor theft, fleeing and eluding, reckless driving and unauthorized use or display of registration plates, Kline said.

Man charged in robbery attempt



A Hagerstown man was charged with attempted armed robbery Friday afternoon after a suspect demanded money from a parking lot attendant at the Hagerstown Trust bank on East Antietam Street, police said.

The attendant said he was in a back room in his office when he heard a noise out front. He went to the front of the office and saw a man in the room, said Hagerstown Police Lt. Margaret Kline.

The suspect demanded money and made a motion under his shirt, Kline said. The attendant was afraid the man had a gun, Kline said.

The man walked away on West Antietam Street, Kline said.

A man matching the description of the suspect was later picked up outside the Dagmar Hotel, Kline said.

James Michael Kobota, 31, of 50 Summit Ave., was charged with attempted armed robbery, Kline said.

Girl, 16, injured on Leitersburg Pike



A 16-year-old girl who was ejected from the 1989 Buick she was driving on Leitersburg Pike late Thursday was in fair condition Friday morning at Washington County Hospital.

Maryland State Police said the incident occurred at 10:22 p.m. near the intersection with Md. 62. The car ran off the right shoulder, struck a culvert and overturned, police said. The driver, who was ejected, was flown to the hospital by Maryland State Police medevac helicopter.

Police didn't release the name of the driver because she is a juvenile.

A passenger refused medical treatment. He received an alcohol citation, police said.

The road was shut down for about an hour. The investigation into the incident is continuing.

Items stolen from homes, businesses



More than $14,000 in jewelry was taken Thursday from a home in the 11000 block of Plumwood Circle, according to Washington County Sheriff's deputies.

Also Thursday, deputies recovered a 1997 Ford F-250 pickup truck along the Downsville Pike that had been earlier stolen from Howard County.

HEIGHT="6" ALT="* "> A purse and 30 CDs were stolen from a vehicle parked at Mechanic and Main streets in Sharpsburg Thursday, deputies said.
