FUNKSTOWN - Trey Cobb went 3-for-5 with two RBI for Funkstown. Matt Johnson, Josh Carter, Matt Allen and Aaron Showe each had two hits and P.J. Hiser went 2-for-4 with five RBI.

Brooks in doubles semis of USTA 18-under tourney

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Hagestown's Joe Brooks advanced, along with teammate Geoffrey Russell of Phoenix into the semifinals of the USTA National Boys' 18 Clay Court doubles tournament Friday.


Brooks and Russell defeated No. 4 seeded Bobby Reynolds and Chip Webb, 5-7, 6-2, 6-1. Their semifinal match is this afternoon.

Age-13 PONY League

Cincinnati 9, Hagerstown 5: Jay Love had three hits, including a home run, for Hagerstown. Jeremy McAfee and Patrick Hutzler each had two hits.

PONY League Sectionals at Chambersburg, Pa.

Hagerstown 10, Mid-Maryland No. 3 4: Drew Crawford led Hagerstown with three hits, while Jeremy Everitts, Ben Jordan and P.J. Bowser each added two. Will Delawter had three hits and Preston Tarleton had two for Mid-Maryland.

COLT League Tournament

Chambersburg 4, Hagerstown Blue 3: Brian Cooper had two hits and Chambersburg scored twice in the bottom of the sixth to advance in the winner's bracket.

Thursday: Hagerstown Blue 4, Glen Burnie 2: Adam Dick struck out 11 in a complete game and Andy Simmons had two hits for Hagerstown.

Hagerstown Church of the Brethren 22, Gateway 21: Ed Beachley had five hits for Hagerstown Church of the Brethren. Chris Baker had two home runs for Gateway.

Otterbein 17, Christ Reformed 5: Josh Trumpower had four hits, including a homer, and John Pickett also had four hits, including two home runs, for Otterbein. Jay Johnson, Larry Wisherd and Kevin Walters each had three hits.
