Walter H. DeShong

NEEDMORE, Pa. - Walter H. DeShong, 76, of 4590 Pleasant Ridge Road, died Tuesday, July 18, 2000, at his home.

Born Sept. 15, 1923, in Pleasant Ridge, Pa., he was the son of the late Harry Raymond and Goldie Catherine Mellott DeShong.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Laura Emogene Deneen DeShong, in 1991.

He was a retired service station owner in Pittsburgh.

He was a member of Sideling Hill Christian Church in Needmore.

He was a member of Centennial Lodge 544 F & AM of Carnegie, Pa.

He is survived by two daughters, Laura Patricia of Pittsburgh, his caretaker for the past 18 months and Barbara Jeanne of Pittsburgh; two sisters, Alma Daniels of Harrisonville, Pa. and Alice Jenny Mellott of Harrisonville; a brother, Ross Raymond DeShong of Needmore; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a stepgreat-grandson.

He was preceded in death by a grandson.

Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Sideling Hill Christian Church in Needmore. Pastor William Swope will officiate. Burial will be in Sideling Hill Christian Cemetery in Needmore.

Visitation will be Friday from 2 to 9 p.m. at Sipes Funeral Home in Harrisonvile; and Saturday at 9 a.m. at the church.

Alma M. Hill

NEEDMORE, Pa. - Alma Marie Hill, 73, of 912 E. Hill Road, died Tuesday, July 18, 2000, at her home.

Born March 24, 1927, in McConnellsburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Georgia Allen Knable Truax.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Webster Mills Free Brethren Church in McConnellsburg.

She is survived by her husband, Carl Hill, whom she married Dec. 20, 1945; two sons, Willard Carl Hill and Coy Dean Hill, both of Needmore; three sisters, Pearl Crum of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., Mae Pittman and Betty Howell, both of McConnellsburg; three brothers, George Truax of Shady Grove, Pa., Clarence Truax Jr. and Harold Truax, both of McConnellsburg; three grandchildren; and a stepgrandchild.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Melvin Truax.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Webster Mills Free Brethren Church in McConnellsburg. Pastors Chalmer Hann, William Garland and Roger Truax will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Ridge Church of the Brethren Cemetery in Needmore.

Visitation will be Thursday from 2 to 9 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 6 to 9 p.m. at Sipes Funeral Home in Harrisonville, Pa. Visitation also will be Friday at 10 a.m. at the church.

Flossie C. Omps

CRYSTAL SPRING, Pa. - Flossie Cleo Omps, 59, of 11556 Old 126, died Monday, July 17, 2000, at Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh.

Born July 5, 1941, in Amaranth, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Charles Robert and Leotta Ann Decker Omps.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Jerusalem Christian Church in Warfordsburg, Pa.

She is survived by a daughter, Angela Omps of Crystal Spring; and three brothers, Robert Omps of Breezewood, Pa., Roger Omps of Roaring Springs, Pa. and Keith Omps of Warfordsburg, Pa.

She was preceded in death by a son and a sister.

Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Jerusalem Christian Church in Warfordsburg. Pastors Lowell Bard and Delmas Bard will officiate. Burial will be in Jerusalem Christian Cemetery in Warfordsburg.

Visitation will be Thursday from 9 to 11 a.m. at the church.

Arrangements are by Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Pa.

Nellie M. Raff

WILLIAMSPORT - Nellie M. Raff, 94, of Homewood at Williamsport, died, Sunday, July 16, 2000.

She was born Nov. 7, 1905, in Security, Md.

She is survived by her husband, Clyde C. Raff of Homewood at Williamsport; one son, Donald Raff of Naples, Fla.; two grandchildren, Donald and Donna of Miami, Fla.; and four great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are pending.

Sammy B. Row

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Sammy B. Row, 73, of 9507 Circle Drive, died Sunday, July 16, 2000, at Chambersburg Hospital.

Born Oct. 21, 1926, in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late Henry C. and Henel Betz Row.

He graduated from Chambersburg High School in 1945.

He and his father owned and operated H.C. Row and Son Printing in Chambersburg. He later worked for Valley Bank as a courier.

A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army.

He was a member of Presbyterian Church of Falling Springs in Chambersburg.

He was a member of Elks Club, The Chambersburg Club, Franklin Fire Co., George Washington Lodge F&AM, VFW Post 1599 in Chambersburg, Burt Asper Post 46 American Legion in Chambersburg, and Commandery (Knights Templar) in Chambersburg.

He is survived by his wife, Edith Hill Bain Row, whom he married in 1993; one stepdaughter, Katrina Beverage of Oregon; one stepson, Reggie Bain of Greencastle, Pa.; one sister, Sally R. McCleary of Chambersburg; one niece and one nephew.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Henry C. Row Jr.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, July 23, at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Presbyterian Church of Falling Springs. The Rev. William Harter will officiate. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
