Man, girl tossed from truck

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - A man and a little girl were thrown from a small pickup truck they were riding in Tuesday morning after the vehicle was struck by a dump truck on Interstate 81, a fire official said.

The man was entering the northbound lane of I-81 at the Spring Mills exit when the truck's tires slid in some diesel fuel that has been spilled, said Robert Robinson, fire chief of the Bedington Volunteer Fire Co.

The man's pickup truck slid into traffic on the interstate and was struck by a dump truck, Robinson said.

The dump truck then collided with another truck, and both of the large trucks slid past the man and girl as they were prone on the interstate highway, Robinson said.

The driver of the dump truck suffered a cut on his side, Robinson said.

Names of the people involved in the crash were not available. Their injuries did not appear to be life-threatening, Robinson said.

Fire hits W.Va. hotel's sauna

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - A small fire occurred at the Holiday Inn Tuesday night when someone threw a T-shirt on a sauna machine in the motel, according to a Martinsburg fire fighter.

Smoke filled the second floor where the sauna was located, but fire fighters were able to remove the smoke with fans, said Eddie Gochenour.

One woman complained about complications from the smoke but later refused treatment, Gochenour said.

The fire was reported about 8 p.m. at the motel, which is near the King Street exit of Interstate 81.

Suspect flees, still wearing handcuffs

A felony theft suspect broke free from Washington County Sheriff's deputies late Monday, fleeing from a storage facility near Valley Mall with one hand still in handcuffs.

Ronnie Eugene Domer, 29, of 17403 Fair Oaks Court, is charged with possession of burglary tools, resisting arrest, second-degree assault as well as two counts of felony theft, according to deputies.

He remained at large Tuesday evening.

Deputies went to Hagerstown Mini-Storage at 17100 Cole Road at 11:30 p.m. for reports of a man selling property believed to have been stolen.

The man rents the storage unit where a stolen dirt bike and other recent burglary property were found, deputies said.

After getting away during a transfer from one cruiser to another, the man scaled a chain link fence despite being pepper sprayed, deputies said.

City police seek men in abductions

Hagerstown City Police are looking for two men who picked up two women in downtown Hagerstown around 10 p.m. Saturday, drove to Rose Hill Cemetery and may have tried to rob them at gunpoint.

The women were told to get out of the older-model white Lincoln Continental with D.C. or Maryland tags, but before the men got out, the women broke away and ran.

Motorcycle damaged

Damage estimated at $300 was done to a motorcycle parked at 17942 Garden Lane overnight, according to Washington County Sheriff's deputies.

The covers were damaged and wires were cut.
