Here are some of the calls we have received lately:

"Congratulations, City of Hagerstown, for finally hiring a parking meter reader who is friendly, polite, has a nice smile and is courteous. Even though he has to write parking tickets, he is very professional at what he does."

"I just want to know who in the world Funkstown thinks it is? That they can tell us what we can do within our city limits. Are they going to give us money for the stadium? Are they going to give us money for the Civil War museum? Are they going to give us money for the arts center? I would like to see that day. Who in the world do they think they are. They even want to get rid of Alt. 40. Where is the traffic going to come from to patronize their antique stores and things like that? We should run our town and our town's business and our town's tax rate for Hagerstown and if they don't like it, then that is their hard luck. But, the day they contribute something to us is the day that we should contribute to them. I am so upset at them at trying to control what is going on here!"

"I want to say that affirmative action is wrong because all it amounts to is lowering the bar so someone can achieve what they really want without having to work for it."

"Happy birthday to Ryan on July 13 from Clear Spring. From his family. Love, Kay, Sarah, Cindy, Kenny, Amanda, Rose, Tim and Julienne."

"When is the city going to require residents to trim back shrubery along the alleys so cars can be driven safely through?"

"I want to suggest something. I am a physically disabled person in the Hagerstown area and currently working. I wish someone in the area would start up a singles group in this area."

"The person who called in and wanted to reach the fire company about someone calling for donations and then hung up on her. I, too, got a call a week ago from a gentleman that wanted money and I asked him where he was calling from and he said Pittsburgh. I said, 'I don't send any money away from Hagerstown. If I send a donation to a fire company, it will be in Hagerstown.' He then said that he would send me an envelope with the address already stamped on it. He said that I needed to send $60, then when I complained about it and he then dropped it down to $30 and then down to $10. But he still wanted me to send it in the self addressed envelope to Pittsburgh. So I called the Hagerstown Fire Department that is in the telephone directory, the number is 301-791-4561 and reported this. I don't know whether something is going on or not."

"Does anyone know how to make plum jelly or plum preserves, I have the plums and don't know what to do with them."
