Gerald W. Stocker Jr.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Gerald W. "Jay" Stocker Jr., 46, of Martinsburg, died Sunday, July 9, 2000, at his home.

Born Sept. 23, 1953, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of M. Louise Grubb Stocker of Martinsburg and the late Gerald W. Stocker Sr.

He was a 1971 graduate of Martinsburg High School.

He was an electrician for UNICCO government services.

He served in the U.S. Navy.

He was a member of Fellowship Church of the Brethren.

He was a member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 120.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, S. Lynn Mongan Stocker; four daughters, Jennifer Stocker of Columbus, Ohio, Tamara R. Stocker and Jessica L. Stocker, both at home, and Tearrance R. Mongan of Martinsburg; two sons, Gerald W. Stocker III of Columbus and Christopher W. Stocker, at home; a sister, Suzanne Stocker of Inwood, W.Va., and a grandson.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. The Rev. Paul Stanley will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

M. Marie Downes

FORT LITTLETON, Pa. - M. Marie Downes, 97, of 28976 Great Cove Road, died Sunday, July 9, 2000, at Green Ridge Village in Newville, Pa.

Born Aug. 30, 1902, in Burnt Cabins, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Denton and Francis Mills Gallagher.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Marcus Downes.

She was owner/operator of Downes Motel in Fort Littleton.

She was a member of Burnt Cabins Methodist Church, where she played the piano.

She is survived by two sons, Elwood Gallagher of Burnt Cabins and Robert Downes Jr. of Fort Littleton; a sister, Nancy Hess of Shade Gap, Pa.; a brother, Guy Gallagher of Denver, Pa.; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Delores Boyer; a sister, and a brother.

Services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, 322 N. Second St., McConnellsburg, Pa. The Rev. Donald Bard will officiate. Burial will be in Union Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, which will be open from 2 p.m., and Thursday at 9 a.m.

Goldie M. Jones

WILLIAMSPORT - Goldie Mae Jones, 89, of Homewood Retirement Center, and formerly of 1749 Edgewood Hill Circle, Hagerstown, died Saturday, July 8, 2000, at the home.

Born June 23, 1911, in Lantz, Md., she was the daughter of the late John William and Gustaba May Jewell Portner.

Her husband, Harold L. Jones, died in 1972.

She and her late husband owned Jones Wallpaper, Linoleum and Tile Service. She had been employed with Hagerstown Shoe and Legging Co.

She was a member of Christ Reformed Church.

She was a member of Card Club at the Eagles.

She is survived by two sisters, Melva L. Hardman of Emmitsburg, Md., and Frances I. Fultz of Thurmont, Md.; two brothers, Lester L. Portner of Waynesboro, Pa., and Albert M. Portner of Gettysburg, Pa.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Anna E. Bushman; five brothers, Floyd C. Portner, Charles W. Portner, John O. Portner, Maurice L. Portner and Norman L. Portner.

Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Donald Moul will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends Tuesday at noon at the funeral home.

John J. Raleigh

MIDDLETOWN, Md. - John Joseph Raleigh M.D., 72, of 6510 Schneider Drive, died Sunday, July 9, 2000, at Frederick (Md.) Memorial Hospital.

Born April 20, 1928, in Limerick, Ireland, he was the son of the late Michael Joseph and Josephine Reid Raleigh.

He was a graduate of the University of Maryland Medical School and served his residency at Mercy Hospital in Baltimore.

He was a retired physician. He was employed by the Montgomery County Health Department.

He was a member of St. Joseph's on the Manor Catholic Church, Buckeystown, Md.

He is survived by two sons, Kevin Michael Raleigh of Frederick and Michael R. Raleigh of Jefferson, Md.; a daughter, Kathleen A. Lilley of New Market, Md.; three brothers, Gene Raleigh and James Raleigh, both of Long Island, N.Y., and Raymond Raleigh of Sarasota, Fla.; a sister, Kay Murphy of Davie, Fla.; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Michael Raleigh.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph's on the Manor Catholic Church, Buckeystown. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Donald B. Thompson Funeral Home, 31 E. Main St., Middletown.
