An armored truck security guard accused of helping himself to $10,000 destined for delivery at a Hagerstown bank was being held at the Washington County Detention Center Thursday, Maryland State Police said.

Marco Antonio Taffo, 26, of 1020 Paul Drive, Rockville, Md., was charged with felony theft more than $300. said Tfc. Michael Potter of the state police criminal investigation unit.

Taffo was employed as a security guard by Dunbar Armored, Inc., which provides armored truck delivery services to the Washington County area.

Potter said the theft was investigated jointly by Maryland State Police and Dunbar Armored, Inc.

On April 12, officials at a Hagerstown bank discovered the shipment at their facility was shorted $10,000.

An investigation was initiated and police interviewed numerous people before centering on Taffo, Potter said.

When questioned Taffo admitted to taking the money from the truck and putting it in a paper bag, Potter said.

None of the stolen money was recovered and Taffo's employment with Dunbar was terminated, Potter said.

Taffo was being held on $20,000 bond Thursday.
