He was a graduate of Field Artillery School, the Air Defense School, and Army Staff School, Carlisle Barracks. He was on the R.O.T.C. Staff at Princeton University, Princeton, N.J.

He was later employed at Site R on Fort Ritchie for 17 years, retiring in 1982.

He was a member of Acacia Lodge 586 F.& A.M., where he was a 32nd degree Mason; Joe Stickell American Legion Post 15; B.P.O. Elks Lodge 731; and William Max Mclaughlin VFW Post 695, all of Waynesboro. He was a member of Mechanics Steam Fire Engine and Hose Co. 1 and member and past president of South Chapter 2977 AARP, both of Waynesboro; and National AARP. He was a former member of Waynesboro Lions Club and Retired Officers Association.

He is survived by his wife, Genevieve H. Barkdoll Chamberlin, whom he married May 11, 1942; a daughter, Nancy A. Miller of Waynesboro; a son, Ronald L. Chamberlin of Brownstown, Pa.; a sister, Geraldine Knepper,of Quincy United Methodist Home, Quincy, Pa.; four granddaughters; a great-granddaughter; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sisters.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro. The Rev. Walter A. Stuart will officiate.

It was his request that there be no public viewing.

Arrangements are by Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro.

Delores L. Smith

BOONSBORO - Delores L. Smith, 70, of 7652 Fairplay Road, died Saturday, June 17, 2000, at her home.

Born May 18, 1930, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Ross Cornelius and Violet Catherine Randall Wynkoop.

She was employed by Fairchild Aircraft in Hagerstown as a timekeeper.

She was a member of First Baptist Church of Hagerstown, was active in Baptist Women's Missionary Union (WMU), Senior Choir, and Nine Sunday School Class.

She was a member of Timekeepers Retirees.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, George H. Smith; a daughter, Candice L. Barnhart of Boonsboro; a son, Brian K. Smith of Amissville, Va.; two sisters, Catherine J. Brown of Indian Shores, Fla., and Margaret J. Griffith of Shepherdstown, W.Va.; a brother, Mahlon A. Wynkoop of Cavetown, and five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, James W. Wynkoop Sr.; a sister, Geraldine M Hull; two half-brothers, Ross C. Wynkoop Jr. and Arthur N. Wynkoop.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, 15 High St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Daniel Taylor will officiate. Private burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

There will be no viewing.

Flowers may be sent to First Baptist Church of Hagerstown, or memorial donations may be made to Washington Humane Society; or to American Heart Association, 322-324 E. Antietam Street, Hagerstown, MD 21740.

Arrangements are by Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, Hagerstown.

Gilbert R. Heefner

FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - Gilbert R. Heefner, 82, of 5500 Lincoln Way East, died Saturday, June 17, 2000, at Chambersburg (Pa.) Hospital.

He was born Dec. 18, 1917, in Pittsburgh.

He attended Mont Alto School, Mont Alto, Pa.

He worked in orchards for Johnny Rinehart in the Rouzerville and Smithsburg areas, for Blue Mountain Orchards owned by Knouse Foods, and for Richard Welty Orchards in the Rouzerville area.

He is survived by two nephews and a niece. He made his home with his nephew, Earl Doyle.

Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, Pa. The Rev. George S. Mouer Sr. will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Mont Alto.

The family will receive friends Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to Antietam Humane Society, 8513 Lyons Road, Waynesboro, PA 17268.

Larry R. Smith

ARTEMAS, Pa. - Larry R. Smith, 52, of Artemas Road, died Saturday, June 17, 2000, at his home.

Born Aug. 21, 1947, in Purcell, Pa., he was the son of Paul E. Smith and the late Freda Virginia Crawford Smith.

He was employed by D & L Utilities in Martinsburg, W.Va.

He was a member of Fairview Christian Church.

In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife, Diana L. Zirkle Smith, whom he married Dec. 31, 1975; two daughters, Kerri L. Smith of Maugansville, and Kelli L. Smith, at home; a son, Barry R. Smith of Little Orleans, Md.; four sisters, Leona I. Trail of Breezewood, Pa., Rosalie V. Whitmer and Diana F. Moyer, both of Clearville, Pa., and Deloris P. Miller of Artemas; two brothers, Dale W. Smith of Hessen, Germany and Paul Scott Smith of Artemas.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Guy M. Smith.

Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Fairview Christian Church. The Rev. Milton Morris and Gary Trail will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Dala Valle Funeral Home, Main Street, Everett, Pa., and Wednesdayat 1;0 a.m. at the church.

Memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society, Bedford Unit, 117 W. Pitt St., Bedford, PA 15522.
