Judge delays hearing for woman charged in Pa. murder

June 18, 2000

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. -- The preliminary hearing for a Chambersburg woman charged in the June 11 shooting death of a veterans post vice commander has been postponed, according to District Justice Gary L. Carter's office.

Jonna M. Johnson, 32, of 405 Philadelphia Ave., Apt. A., is charged with criminal homicide in the death of Robert E. Tucker, 49, of Chambersburg. He died of a single gunshot wound outside the Richard L. Hershey Veterans of the Vietnam War Post 41, 1571 S. Main St.

Johnson's hearing had been set for this afternoon, but is now scheduled for Tuesday, June 27, Carter's Office said last week. Johnson is being held in Franklin County Prison without bail.

At the time of her arrest shortly after the shooting, Chambersburg police said additional charges were pending against Johnson. No new charges had been filed as of last week and police said they are still investigating the case.

Two other people were injured in the shooting, according to police. Club Manager Kimberly K. Bigler and bartender William B. Groff Jr. were both wounded and taken to Hershey (Pa.) Medical Center, after the shooting, which was reported at 1:49 a.m.

Both were released from the hospital last week, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

Bigler and Groff were both shot inside the post and Tucker was shot outside the building, according to a post official. Police said last week the motive for the shooting was unknown.
