Sick snake sent home with boy

June 15, 2000

A Washington County Sheriff's deputy was called to Boonsboro High School Thursday for a report that a snake had been taken to the school in a student's backpack.

The unidentified student took the snake to the school because the snake was sick and the student did not want to leave it at home, said Donna Messina, community relations specialist for the Washington County Board of Education.

The student's mother was called and the student and the snake went home, she said. There were no problems caused as a result of the snake's presence, she said.

"There's no story," Principal Helen P. Becker said. "There's no comment."

Deputy Daniel Watson went to the school but could not be reached for comment Thursday.
