June 15, 2000

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - A Chambersburg man was sentenced Wednesday in Franklin County Court to 6 1/2 to 20 years in state prison for sexually assaulting a 7-year-old girl.

The 30-year-old man pleaded guilty in April to rape, according to court records. He was charged in December 1999 after the girl's mother reported the abuse to Pennsylvania State Police.

Police records said the man had sexual contact with the girl on three occasions in April 1999, while the girl's mother was at work. The incidents happened in April 1999 when the man was living outside of Chambersburg, court records said.

Judge Carol Van Horn also gave the man a concurrent sentence of one month to two years in prison for driving under the influence. Court records said he had been charged by Greencastle Borough Police after a Nov. 23 traffic stop.
