NEWVILLE, Pa. - A Cumberland County woman is dead and a man in critical condition following an apparent homicide and suicide attempt Saturday morning in North Middleton Township, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

Police said Betty E. Adams, 35, of Newville, was found dead at the Gamelands Public Pistol Range on state forest land. The report said David Lee Barclay, 46, of 83 E. Main St., Newville, was found in a vehicle at the pistol range with a gunshot wound to the head.

The report said the shootings occurred sometime between 6:30 and 8:30 a.m. when Adams left for work at the Sarah A. Todd Memorial Home in Carlisle, Pa. Police said a man followed her vehicle for about five miles, forced it off the road near a Golf Course and then got into her car.

The man drove the car to the pistol range where he shot her and then himself, police said.
