Mail Call for 6/8

June 08, 2000

"I want to wish a happy wedding anniversary to a very special woman that passed away two years ago on June 11 and a happy birthday to her on June 13. I love her very much."

"The school officials have decided to remove Head Start from our schools. They turned down funding for this program, which will now leave a lot of teachers and teachers' aides without jobs. Not to mention our 3- and 4-year-old children will be missing out on a wonderful start on their education. My oldest child is five and she has spent the last two years in this program at Salem Avenue Elementary. She has learned so much and I feel that taking this opportunity away from other children is a shame. Some of us Head Start parents at Salem Avenue Elementary will be starting a petition. You can help by signing it. You can also help by calling Dr. Bartlett at 301-766-2817 or writing him at 820 Commonwealth Ave. P.O. Box 730, Hagerstown, Md. 21740. Please voice your opinion, for the children's sake. Call and write to the mayor, Board of Education, Mail Call, Letters to the Editor, The White House, the Governor's Office."

"I see that there is going to be a new Arts Center downtown for $10 million. I guess the taxpayers will get stuck with that, too. What happened to the museum?"

"I am new to the area and I was just learning line dancing before I moved here. I was wondering if anyone could give me information on where I could go and if there is costs involved."

"My name is Mary and I want to wish my husband, Pat, a very happy 50 birthday on June 7. I love you, from your loving wife, sons and grandkids."

"This is for the City Council. How can residents on Broadway go about getting permit parking? There is absolutely no place to park in the evening when we get home. People who have off-street parking at their buildings, don't use it. How can they be forced to use the off-street parking available to them so that the rest of us who don't have that luxury will have a place on the street to park? I would like to hear from anyone else who agrees that the permits would help this situation."

"I was given a plant recently called mandevillia and I was wondering if someone could tell me, it is rather large in the pot, should I transplant it or leave it in there? Do I bring it inside in the winter? Can I leave it out, or will it die?"
