Council OKs fee increases

The Hagerstown City Council on Tuesday formally approved several fee increases that were also included in the recently approved budget for the 2000-2001 fiscal year.

The revised fees for trash collection, parking fines, and residential and business alarm permits, were approved in separate 4-0 council votes. Councilman Alfred W. Boyer did not attend the meeting.

The changes include:

-- Increasing the fine for expired parking meters to $7 from the current $5.

-- Increasing the fee for a residential alarm permit to $15, from the current $12. The fee for business alarm permit will increase to $30 from $24.

-- Increasing the trash collection fee to $84 a year. The fee is currently $82 a year.

The fee increases will take effect in early July.
