Suns flex muscle in Wednesday's win

SALISBURY, Md. - The Hagerstown Suns, one day after being eliminated from the South Atlantic League's Northern Division's first-half race, hit two home runs in defeating the Delmarva Shorebirds, an affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, 8-3 on Wednesday night.

Catcher Guillermo Quiroz hit his first home run of the season, a two-run shot to left centerfield, in the sixth inning giving Hagerstown (29-31) a 4-1 lead. Robert Cosby added a two-run homer, his third of the year, in the ninth inning.

Matt Ford pitched five-plus innings to pick up the win, striking out seven and allowing three runs. Leading 4-1, Ford faced three batters in the sixth inning, allowing two to score, before giving way to Rob Hamann, who pitched 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief.

Hugo Castellanos pitched the final 1 1/3 innings to record his first save of the year.

The Suns took advantage of four Shorebird errors to score three unearned runs. Aaron Fera had Hagerstown's only other RBI on the evening when he hit a sacrifice fly.

Delmarva (32-28) had 10 hits, including three by second baseman Willie Harris and two by catcher Jonathan Kessick.
