Budget includes raises

SMITHSBURG - A proposed fiscal 2001 budget for the Town of Smithsburg includes raises for some of its employees.

Clerk/Treasurer Betsy Martin is to receive a 3 percent cost of living raise, which would increase her salary from $32,222 to $33,189.

An increase from $9 to $10 an hour was included for the town's assistant clerk.

The biggest salary increase was for Director of Public Works Bill Loughridge, who receives a 5 percent merit increase, upping his annual salary to $31,500.

An increase in the wage rate for the public works technician from $8 per hour to $9 is also included in the proposed spending plan.

The Town Council is expected to vote on the budget June 13.
