Belliotti reluctantly re-elected to PTA

After 2 1/2 years as president of the Washington County Council of Parent Teacher Associations, Jenny Belliotti had planned to step down this month.

Recent health problems, she feared, would prevent her from giving the job the time and energy it deserves.

But Thursday night, Belliotti accepted the nomination for president and was re-elected for another year's term.

"This is very hard for me," she said.

Later, Belliotti was overcome with emotion when the Maryland PTA gave her an honorary lifetime achievement award.

"Many of you don't realize what this means, but this is very special to me," she said.

She called the award the most important recognition she has ever received.

"It's been a tough year. It just made it all worthwhile," she said.

Although she had been reluctant to remain president, she was reassured by the other members of the executive committee, who offered their support.

Also elected to the County Council of PTAs on Thursday were Scott Nicewarner, first vice president; Kim Grandee, second vice president; Courtney Plume, recording secretary; and Ray Ketrow, treasurer.

The position of corresponding secretary, responsible for putting together the newsletter, is still open.
