Callas will renovate HCC branch

The Hagerstown Community College Board of Trustees on Tuesday awarded Callas Contractors Inc. of Hagerstown a contract to renovate the college's Valley Mall branch for $174,900.

Renovations include new computer and conference rooms, new double doors, columns and a new HCC sign.

By law, the company that submits the lowest qualified construction bid is awarded the contract.

GRC General Contractors Inc. of Greencastle, Pa., submitted the lowest bid at $169,607, but was removed from consideration for noncompliance with the bidding requirements and the inability to meet renovation specifications, said Phillip Snodderly, director of facilities management and planning.

Renovations to the Valley Mall branch are to begin today.

The Board of Trustees also awarded a contract worth $499,015 to Kline Associated Roofing Contractors Inc. of Hagerstown for roof replacement projects.

The roof of the theater, lower Career Programs Building and the shingled portion of the library will be replaced.

Work is expected to get begin by mid-summer.
