Triad site rezoned

May 23, 2000

The Washington County Commissioners voted Tuesday to rezone 49.5 acres of agricultural land for a housing development off Mount Aetna Road.

The property is on the north side of Mount Aetna Road, just east of the Robinwood Drive intersection. It's across the street from the former Miller Farm, which was the subject of a controversial rezoning and annexation into the City of Hagerstown last fall.

The rezoning will allow Triad Properties to subdivide the property into lots as small as 10,000 square feet. Agricultural zoning requires 20,000-square-foot lots.

Commissioner Bert L. Iseminger said the developers plan to build 110 single-family homes, which would fit in with the character of the surrounding Brightwood Acres neighborhood, he said.

The County Commissioners voted 2-1 to approve the rezoning.

Commissioner John L. Schnebly abstained from the vote because he has a business relationship with one of the developers.

Commissioner William J. Wivell voted against the rezoning, saying he disagreed with the higher density development.
