Fire awareness day at Martinsburg Lowe's

May 20, 2000

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - The Lowe's Home Improvement Warehouse and the Martinsburg Fire Department will team up today for a fire awareness program that will include free distribution of smoke alarms in city homes.

Lowe's has pitched in about $1,500 to buy smoke detectors for the project, said manager Roger Siford.

A car show will be held at the local Lowe's next weekend to raise more money for detectors, Siford said.

On June 3, Lowe's and fire department representatives will go door-to-door to offer homeowners free tests of their smoke alarms, Siford said. Free detectors will be installed in any home that does not have them, as long as supplies last.

The Community Fire Awareness Day starts today at the Lowe's store on Apple Harvest Drive with the distribution of brochures and videos and fire extinguisher demonstrations.
