Local roundup - Musselman wins sectional baseball title

KEYSER, W.Va. - Brad Shade went 3-for-4 with two RBI Thursday to lead Musselman to an 8-1 win over Keyser and a sweep of the Region II Section 1 title.

Mike Hudson and Todd Mosby both went 2-for-4 or the Applemen (22-8), who will play the winner of tonight's Jefferson-Martinsburg game in the Region II final next week.

Grace Academy 5, Shalom 0

Jake Marquis allowed only one baserunner while striking out six to lead Grace Academy to the Mason Dixon Christian Conference crown at Municipal Stadium.


Marquis helped his own cause, going 2-for-4 for the Trpjans (13-4). Nathan Sweeney had three hits, including a home run, for the winners.

Southern Fulton 5, McConnellsburg 2

MCCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - Trish Douglas had two triples for Southern Fulton, while Tia Hixon and Jenny Liggett each had doubles.

McConnellsburg falls to 4-15.

Callas 9, Red's Plumbing 8: Anthony Timmons and Joey Lamp both had three hits, and lamp had two homers and five RBI for Callas.

Federal Little League

Lions 5, American Legion 4: Andrew Henry had two hits for Lions. Kevin Yildirm and Mark Lancaster combined on a four-hitter for American Legion.

Hagerstown PONY League

Jeter Paving 14, UAW 2: Josh Mitchell and Brandon Painter combined on a four hitter with eight strikeouts for Jeter. Drew Crawford, Chris Smith and Josh Daniels each had two hits. Jamie Mullinex had two hits, including a home run, and five RBI. Mitchell also hit a three run homer. Micheal Snyder had two hits, including a home run, for UAW.

Conococheague Little League

Redmen 18, Taylor Trucking 3: Aerik Taylor pitched a no-hitter with nine strikeouts for Redmen. Taylor also homered. John Combs had three hits, including a home run, and Joey Siler also homered. Tyler Beard and Austin Barkdoll both had four hits, while Kyle Cunningham added two hits.

Sharpsburg Little League

Keystone Financial 5, Lions 1: Nick Lupo pitched a one-hitter with nine strikeouts for Keystone. Lupo also had two hits. Chris Showe had nine strikeouts for Lions.

Halfway Senior League

Beaver Mechanical 13, Funkstown Legion 4: Adam Mowen had 14 strikeouts for Beaver Mechanical. Mowen also hit two doubles, while Justin Nigh hit a home run. Kevin Shank had three hits and Nathan Moss had two. Cliff Barnhart had two hits for Funkstown Legion.

National Minor League

A.E. Sweeney 21, Merchants 3: Zachery Boyler had two hits for A.E. Sweeney. Jarrit Bower and Richard Robey each had two hits.

Maugansville Junior League

Hagerstown Kitchens 15, Spicher's 5: Jeff Shord, Jeff Showalter, Eric Crummitt and Daniel Zamora each had two hits for Hagerstown Kitchens.

South Mountain Little League

Nationwide 6, Thompson Gas 5: Curtis Harsh led Nationwide with three hits, including two doubles. Josh Miller had two hits, while Matthew Byers had 14 strikeouts. Todd Potter had two hits for Thompson's.

Hancock Little League

Yankees 13, Tigers 7: Darin Smith had three hits, including two home runs, for the Yankees. James Kelp had three hits, including a homer, while Nathan Smith had four hits. Brad Divel added three hits. Steven Mowen led the Tigers with three hits. P.J. Hixon and Eric Mellott both had two hits.

Wash. Co. Girls Softball

M&M Mars 11, Halfway Electric 15: Brittany Nevalle struck out nine and had three hits for M & M Mars. Jessica Manuel had two hits, including a triple.

Double J 15, AFSCME 0: Ariel Straus had three hits, while Cara Thompson, Michelle Thompson and Becky Lloyd each had two for Double J.

J. Yost and Daughters 19, 4-Star Springfield 2: Damara McDonough had three hits and Stephanie Reynard and Sarah Deal had two hits for the winners. Jessica Bair made two unassisted double plays. Kelly Beard homered for 4-Star.

West End Little League

Elks 14, Coca Cola 4: Norman Potter had three hits and Alex Grove homered among his two hits as Elks defeated Coca-Cola. David Richard homered in a losing cause.

National Little League

Funkstown Legion 18, Longmeadow Exxon 13: Jason Sutherland went 5-for-5 and Stevie Munson had three hits for Funkstown. Zac Wonder, Jason David, Ben Caffarelli, James Hutzler and Patrick Mertz all had two hits for Longmeadow Exxon.

Valley Senior League

NARG 15, Jeter 5: Pat Wivell had three hits to lead NARG. Brandon Fisher, Chris Rodgers, Mike Smith and Dylan Miss added two hits for the winners. Gary Boyer had three hits to pace Jeter.

Washington County Babe Ruth League

Rowland's 16, Pro-Fab 5: Jeff Mills and Dustin Sier combined on a two-hitter to lead Rowland's. Mills and William Green each had three hits and R.J. Mitchell homered for the winners.
