Crumbs from the Cracker Barrel

May 17, 2000

Former Hagerstown resident Sig Brandenburg treasures his memories of Hagerstown's Municipal Stadium, which was "a big part of my life. Watching the Owls through a knothole in the mid-1940s was a privilege to me. I thought I was the luckiest boy in Hagerstown when I was a ball boy and bat boy for the Braves in the early 1950s."

The South High graduate later became a popular figure on the diamond himself. "I loved to play baseball anywhere, but the games I played at Municipal Stadium were special. We were playing in a professional ball park where Willie Mays, Bob Allison, Boots Poffenberger and other greats had played. What an honor it was!"
