John Carmack, 35, was listed in satisfactory condition Monday, according to a nursing supervisor.

Police said Carmack was southbound on Lemar Road near the Renninger Road intersection at 1:50 a.m. when he lost control of a 1994 Chevy pickup on a curve. The truck went through an electric fence and hit and uprooted a tree before striking and killing a Holstein cow.

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Pennsylvania State Police released more details Monday on a pursuit and subsequent escape attempt early Sunday morning.

Police had said Perry Lee Tasker, 19, of 7068 Brownsville Road, had been charged with fleeing and eluding police and resisting arrest after a one-mile chase from Spring Road in Guilford Township to Stanley Avenue in Chambersburg that began at 3:56 a.m.

The updated report said the driver of a Mazda 626 sedan ran into a police cruiser in the parking lot next to the Memorial Park bandshell. The man ran into an occupied house and state and borough police pulled him from under a bed in the house's basement.

State police said the man was taken to Chambersburg Hospital for treatment. As he was being taken from the hospital he ran from police. The foot chase covered several blocks and the man entered several occupied houses while trying to escape, but was apprehended by police and several citizens, the report said.

Police said the man was not handcuffed as he left the hospital because of a wrist injury he suffered when he was taken into custody the first time.

Charges of hit-and-run, driving under the influence and escape were also filed against Tasker, police said. He was arraigned before District Justice Shirley Shatzer and released on $20,000 bond, but was later jailed in Franklin County Prison for violating probation, police said.

A prison official said Tasker was still being held Monday night.
