MERCERSBURG, Pa. - A Mercersburg man was killed Monday morning in a three-vehicle accident at the intersection of Mercersburg and Lemar Roads in Peters Township, Pennsylvania State Police reported.

Timmy W. Clever, 42, of 12450 Rockwell Lane, was pronouced dead at the scene of the 6:20 a.m. accident by Franklin County Chief Deputy Coroner Kenneth L. Peiffer. Clever died of multiple traumatic injuries, according to Peiffer.

Injured in the accident was the driver of another car, Patricia M. Barthalow, 50, of 7658 Cumberland Circle, St. Thomas, Pa. She was taken to Chambersburg Hospital and was listed in satisfactory condition Monday afternoon, a nursing supervisor said.

Police said the accident occurred when a 1995 Ford truck being driven east on Lemar Road by John W. Homan, 41, of 486 W. Old York Road, Carlisle, Pa., collided with Clever's 1986 Ford Escort and Barthalow's Pontiac Grand Am.

The impact forced Homan and Clever's vehicles through an intersection and both came to rest on Lemar Road, police said. Barthalow's car remained on Mercersburg Road.

Police said Clever was not wearing a seatbelt. Homan and Barthalow were wearing seatbelts and Homan was uninjured, according to the report.

Peiffer said a State Police accident reconstructionist was called to the scene and Lemar Road was closed while the accident was being investigated.

Police said Monday afternoon the accident was still under investigation.
