Margaret E. Johnson

Margaret E. Johnson, 83, of George Street, Hagerstown, died Thursday, May 11, 2000, at Colton Villa Nursing Home in Hagerstown.

Born March 3, 1917, in Greencastle, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Frank M. and Margaret E. Deitrich Johnson.

She was a Protestant.

She worked as a waitress at Always Restaurant in Hagerstown, and later as a seamstress at GEM Garment Co. in Greencastle.


She is survived by two brothers, Richard L. Johnson and George Johnson, both of Greencastle, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, Donald Johnson, and four brothers, Calvin Johnson, Paul Johnson, Glenn Johnson and Junior Johnson.

Services and burial will be at Shanks Church Cemetery in Greencastle at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are by Rest Haven Funeral Home, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown.

Infant girl

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - A funeral service for the infant girl who was found in Chambersburg will be Thursday at 7 p.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road in Chambersburg. The Rev. Harold E. Yeager will officiate. Burial will be Friday at 10 a.m. in Lincoln Cemetery in Chambersburg.

Memorial donations may be made to Baby Grace Memorial Fund, c/o American Community Federal Credit Union, P.O. Box 23, Chambersburg, PA 17201. All funds donated will be used to help prevent incidents like this in the future, according to a press release from the funeral home.

Viola M. Hall

STAUNTON, Va. - Viola May Balser Hostetter Hall, 81, of 76 Hudson St., died Friday, May 12, 2000, at Augusta Medical Center.

Born Jan. 10, 1919, in Rockbridge County, Va., she was the daughter of the late Howard M. and Mary Kate Balser.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Clarence E. Hostetter.

She retired from the former Genesco L-Greif Companies of Verona, Va.

She is survived by her second husband, Orie F. Hall; two daughters, Joan Hostetter Clinedinst of Hagerstown and Jerlene Hostetter Showalter of Verona; a son, Everett L. Hostetter of Fishersville, Va.; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce Hostetter Jolly.

A private graveside service will be Tuesday. The Rev. Jay C. Morgan will officiate.

There will be no public viewing; however, the family will receive friends at her home.

Arrangements are by Henry Funeral Home, Staunton.

Ella V. McBee

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Ella Virginia Sipes McBee, 99, of Berkeley Springs, died Friday, May 12, 2000, at Heartland of Martinsburg.

Born June 19, 1900, in Little Orleans, Md., she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Mary Alice Divelbliss Sipes.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Monroe McBee, in 1946.

She attended public schools in Allegany County, Md.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Mount Zion United Methodist Church, Spohrs Crossroads, W.Va.

She made quilts and donated them to Quincy Retirement Village, Quincy, Pa.

She is survived by two daughters, Dora K. Johnson of Falling Waters, W.Va., and Ethel L. McCoy of Hagerstown; two sons, Elmer H. McBee and Clarence E. McBee, both of Berkeley Springs; a half sister, Kathleen Price of Little Orleans, Md.; 14 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, Henry C. McBee Sr.; four brothers, Charles Sipes, Henry Sipes, George Sipes and Sherman Sipes; two half sisters, Ethel Younker and Hazel Price; two half brothers, Russell Sipes and Arthur Sipes; a granddaughter; a grandson; a great-grandson; and a great-great-grandson.

Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Mount Zion United Methodist Church in Spohrs Crossroads. The Rev. Betty Goggin-Bartles will officiate. Burial will be in Spohrs Crossroads Cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St. in Berkeley Springs, which will be open at 11 a.m.; and Monday at 10 a.m. at the church.

Melvin F. Humphreys

Melvin F. Humphreys, 93, of Hagerstown and formerly of Sykesville, Md., and Oakland, Md., died Friday, May 12, 2000, at Julia Manor Health Care Center, Hagerstown.

Born Sept. 6, 1906, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Harry F. and Blanche E. Getzdanner Humphreys.

He was a retired lineman for C&P Telephone Co.

He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Burial of his cremains will be held in Baltimore Cemetery at a later date.

Arrangements are by Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland.

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Margaret M. Burtt, 83, of Hedgesville, died Saturday, May 13, 2000, at City Hospital in Martinsburg, W.Va.
