Shepherd splits (local roundup from Tuesday)

BLUEFIELD, W.Va. - Shepherd split a doubleheader with Bluefield State on Tuesday winning the first game 14-4 before falling in the second game 5-1 in WVIAC baseball action.

Mike Spry belted a pair of home runs to lead the Rams in game one. Jeremy Hancock and Chris Matthias added two hits each.

Preston Miller got the win, while Arnold Mollette took the loss.

Bluefield pitcher Jason Houck scattered five hits in the nightcap to pick up the win. Brad Runkles suffered the loss for the Rams.

Kevin Kendro led the Rams in game twowith two hits.

Shepherd ends the year with a 19-22 record, including a 7-12 mark in the WVIAC.

Middletown 3, FSK 2

MIDDLETOWN, Md. - Chad Keller tossed a four-hitter and scored the game-winning run as Middletown notched an MVAL win over Francis Scott Key.

With the game tied at 2-2, Keller led off the bottom of the sixth with a double. He advanced to third on a passed ball and, with two outs, scored on Chris Rhoades' single.

Keller (2-2) struck out two and walked one and Darin Gordan had two hits for Middletown (8-5).

McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - Jamie Strait doubled home Tiffany Sipes in the eighth inning as McConnellsburg avenged an 11-1 earlier loss to Everett. In addition to being the winning pitcher, Strait went 4-for-5 with three doubles.

Nicki Potts, Darcy Everitts, and Hayley Sipes each added two hits.
