Movie Review

May 01, 2000

"Keeping the Faith" is a great combination of humor and romance. This may sound like a cliche, but while watching the movie, I couldn't help but notice that it fit the mold while breaking it.

Ben Stiller (Rabbi Jake Schram), Edward Norton (Father Brian Finn), and Jenna Elfman (Anna Reilly) make the perfect cast. As children, Jake and Brian were the "late developers." While all of the other neighborhood boys would be ecstatic about being close to Anna, Jake and Brian were just happy being her friends. Sadly, Anna moves away, and the boys move on.

Skip 16 years: Jake is now a rabbi, and Brian has become a priest. Neither of the guys has seen Anna since eighth grade, but the two are still best friends and otherwise known as the "God Squad."

Anna comes back to New York as a workaholic executive. Both Jake and Brian find themselves showing some "un-Godly" behavior as a result of their visits with Anna.

"Keeping The Faith" is a great movie for you to see on your next date. It's not a chick flick, but there's no blood and gore, either.
