Belongings missing at local hospital

A man who was admitted to Washington County Hospital Saturday from the emergency room became the victim of a $470 theft, according to Hagerstown City Police.

His clothing and personal items were placed in a bag in the emergency room but never made it to his room, police said.

Men get $3,100 from woman in city

A homeowner in the 400 block of East Washington Street handed over $3,100 in cash Friday to two men who came to her door and said they had repaired her roof, Hagerstown City Police said.


The men mentioned the name of a man who recommended them for the job and the woman told police she knew that man and that's why she gave them the money.

She couldn't describe the men and only remembers they might have been in a tan vehicle, police said.

Police urge all homeowners to be aware of possible scams and never to give anyone cash.

Man charged with solicitation in stingĀ»

Hagerstown City Police made one arrest in an undercover prostitution sting about 3 a.m. Monday in the first block of North Prospect Street.

Timothy Lee Barnhart, 36, of 13529 Spickler Road, Clear Spring, was charged with one count of solicitation for prostitution after he allegedly approached a female police officer.

Barnhart was released on bond Monday, police said.

Beer stolen in ballpark burglary

A burglary at the concession stand at Municipal Stadium, where the Hagerstown Suns play, netted thieves $49.20 worth of beer, according to Hagerstown City Police.

C&O cases heard

According to court records, the following people appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Thomas DiGirolamo on Feb. 19 on charges brought by National Park Service rangers on C&O Canal property:

- John E. Geist, 51, of 12352 Seavolt Road, Hancock, fined $1,010 for taking or attempting to take wildlife in the park, Remington muzzleloading rifle forfeited to National Park Service.

- Shawn K. Gift, 33, of 14857 Bottom Road, Williamsport, fined $320 for possession of a weapon and taking or attempting to take wildlife in the park, Winchester rifle forfeited to National Park Service.

- Richard F. Hale, 73, of 3665 Point of Rocks Road, Jefferson, Md., fined $160 for tampering with a motor vehicle.

- Peter W. Hull, 53, of 17054 Snyder's Landing Road, Sharpsburg, fined $60 for improper disposal of waste.

- David M. Lease, 19, of 12725 Bayer Hollow Road SE, Cumberland, Md., fined $85 for underage possession of alcohol.

- Ernest C. Nelson, 28, of 477 Baltimore Ave., Cumberland, Md., fined $160 for possession of a weapon.

- Cody Reed, 18, of 9916 National Pike, Big Pool, fined $195 for destruction of natural features (plants) and underage possession of alcohol.

The following cases were heard by DiGirolamo on April 28:

- Crittenden Walker, 35, of 527 1/2 Brunswick St., Brunswick, Md., unregistered motor vehicle, $410 fine, two years probation.

- Robert E. Lewis, 19, of 4936 Porterstown Road, Keedysville, possession of illegal drugs, $260 fine.

- A 15-year-old juvenile, possession of illegal drugs, $260 fine.

On March 17, one case was heard:

- Rodney D. Linton, 38, of 3841A Jefferson Pike, Jefferson, Md., driving under the influence of alcohol, $360 fine, attend a victim impact panel.
