Jefferson Memorial to offer prenatal, parenting classes

RANSON, W.Va. - Jefferson Memorial Hospital will offer prenatal and parenting classes Mondays from 7 to 9:30 p.m. in the hospital's first-floor conference room. These classes are intended for individuals with expected delivery dates in June or July.

* Tonight, prenatal phase - This class deals with maternal changes in pregnancy, normal fetal development, nutrition and exercise, common discomforts and solutions, breathing and relaxation techniques.

* May 8, labor and delivery - Topics of discussion include the stages of delivery, normal procedures, comfort measures and medications.


* May 15, labor and delivery continued - This class will continue to cover the stages of labor, procedures, comfort measures and a tour of the OB unit.

* May 22, Caesarean birth and vaginal birth after Caesarean.

* June 5, breast-feeding - This class is open to anyone who wants to learn about breast-feeding her infant and is offered free to the public. However, everyone must register.

* June 12, postpartum care and newborn - This class will include newborn appearance and tests, circumcision, postpartum self-care for mom, newborn care and car seat safety.

There is a $25 fee for the program.
