A Frederick, Md., motorcyclist remained hospitalized Monday evening after being involved in a two-vehicle accident Sunday evening at the intersection of Crystal Falls Drive and U.S. 40, according to Maryland State Police.

Timothy Hughes, 25, of Frederick, was riding a 2000 Kawasaki west on U.S. 40 when it collided with a 1985 Ford pickup truck driven by Sylvester Shanholtzer, 65, also of Frederick.

The truck was attempting to turn left onto Crystal Falls Drive from eastbound U.S. 40, police said.

Hughes was flown to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where he was in fair condition late Monday, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Shanholtzer was treated at Washington County Hospital and released that same evening, hospital officials said.

Four tires were slashed and the windshield was broken on a vehicle parked in the 13000 block of Greensburg Road near Smithsburg Sunday, according to Washington County Sheriff's deputies.


In other Sunday calls:

- In the Smithsburg area, residents of the 15000 block of Edgemont Drive reported stereo equipment was damaged; and a home in the 12000 block of Steven Avenue was entered through a rear window.

- More than $1,200 in stereo equipment, a cellular phone and a CD player were taken from a vehicle at 20109 Teakwood Drive.

FREDERICK, Md. - A Shepherdstown, W.Va., woman was in serious condition Monday evening at the

University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore after a two-car crash Saturday on U. S. 340 west of Interstate 70, Maryland State Police said.

According to police, a 1999 Audi station wagon driven by Betty Edwards, 75, moved from the shoulder across the three lanes in an attempt to reach an emergency crossover.

Her vehicle and a 1993 Ford Festiva driven by Elizabeth Carroll collided, police said.

Carroll, 19, of Brunswick, Md., was taken to Baltimore's Johns Hopkins Hospital, where she was in fair condition Monday evening, a spokesman there said.
