Chimney fire damages home

FUNKSTOWN - Area firefighters were called to put out a chimney fire in a home Sunday evening, according to dispatchers with Washington County Emergency Services.

The home at 503 Beaver Creek Road received smoke damage from the fire, which may have resulted from a cracked flue. It broke out around 9:45 p.m.

Additional information was unavailable Sunday evening.

Passenger charged with drug possession

A passenger in a vehicle pulled over for traffic violations was taken into custody Sunday after drugs were found in the car, Maryland State Police alleged.

Police said the car was pulled over on Interstate 81 at Interstate 70 at 5 a.m.

The passenger was found to be sitting on a small clear plastic baggy containing suspected marijuana, police alleged.

Randy Eugene McNamee, 42, of 12617 Rockdale Road, Hagerstown, was charged with possession of drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia.

McNamee was released on bond Sunday evening, according to police.
