Dual Highway lane to close

April 05, 2000

Beginning today and for the next six months, only one lane of the two-lane bridge that carries eastbound lanes of Dual Highway over Antietam Creek in Hagerstown will be open to traffic, a State Highway Administration spokeswoman said Wednesday.

During that time, all tractor-trailers will be detoured around that section of Dual Highway, using Eastern Boulevard and Mount Aetna Road, SHA spokeswoman Lora Rakowski said.

Each of the two lanes will be closed for three months at a time as crews repave each side and continue the bridge widening work that began months ago.

Estimated cost of the bridge project is $1.8 million, Rakowski said.

When finished there will be an additional left-turn lane for westbound traffic, a sidewalk on the bridge and wider road shoulders, she said.
