LOUISBURG, N.C. - Liz Estevez pitched a no-hitter as Charles County defeated Hagerstown Community College 9-1 on Sunday.

Estevez struck out seven, walked two and hit a batter in five innings of work.

Binghamton 7, Shepherd 4

SHEPHERDTOWN, W.Va. - Tim Collar went 4-for-4 as Binghamton defeated Shepherd 7-4.

Binghamton scored once in the first inning, twice in the second and put away the Rams (6-9) with a four-run fifth, taking the lead 7-0 at that point.


Shepherd scored four in the eighth to make the game close, as Todd Asplen hit a three-run homer.

Mount splits two with Penn

PHILADELPHIA - Mount St. Mary's hung on for a 7-6 victory in the first game of a doubleheader against Pennsylvania, but the Quakers came back big for an 18-6 win in the second game.

The Mount (9-13) scored five runs in the fourth inning of the first game to take a 6-2 lead. Pennsylvania scored three in the fifth to get within one. Mount St. Mary's added an insurance run in the seventh, and it proved to be the difference, as Pennsylvania scored once in its half of the seventh before Mount pitcher Rob Taylor got a strikeout to end the game.

In the second game, Penn senior Jeff Gregorio had two hits and four RBIs, including a three-run homer in the Quakers' six-run fourth inning.

FSU splits a pair

FROSTBURG, Md. - Frostburg State University defeated SUNY-Brockport 9-2 in its first game, but fell to Marietta College, 4-0.

Clear Spring graduate Pat Sweeney hit a two-run homer in the first game for FSU (6-8) in the top of the third, extending his career HR record at the school to 26. Sweeney added an RBI single in the seventh.

Boonsboro won the first game 20-12 on Saturday as Kara Hutzell hit two home runs and Lydia Griffin hit one homer. Smithsburg won the second game, 28-16.


Local team wins tourney

FREDERICK, Md. - Braddock Motors/Suds Shop, formerly Pick's Place, won a ISA tournament Sunday by defeating Team NIKE of Bangor, Maine 24-19 and 31-15 in the championship rounds. The victory qualifies Braddock Motors for the World Championship in Auburn, Ala. in August.

Jown Fowler was named MVP of the tournament. Hitting better than .600 were Rich Grove, Jeff Reynolds, Rocky Wills, Nick Byers, Bill Bakner, John Hartle, Ken Kirby and Glen Himes.

Jerry's Sports wins title

FREDERICK, Md. - Jerry's Sports/Adam's Pizza went 5-0 and won the Class E tournament, defeating Joe Corbi's Storm 17-14 in the title game.

Jerry's sports, which plays in the Pinesburg league, qualified for the ISA Class E World Series in Polk, Fla. on Labor Day Weekend.

Mook Malloy hit over .800, while Joey Springer and Mike Green hit over .700. Green was named the tournament MVP. Jeff Hetzer, Leon Allen, Todd Shifflett and Dewey Whitmore all hit over .600.

Team takes third in Class D

FREDERICK, Md. - Joe Corbi's Thunder took third place in an ISA Class D tournament, defeating Easton 25-11 in the third-place game.

Eugene Ward batted .813 in the tournament, Joe Hammond and Earl Stoner batted .666, while Lyle Shifflet batted .647. The team batted a combined .600 for the tourney.
