Mail Call for 3/21

March 21, 2000

"On the Ron Bowers roast. They should put the $30,000 they raised for HCC on the water and sewer debt because he is one of the ones that caused it."

"I watched 'Meet the Press' on Sunday and I think this is proof positive that the media is completely anti-gun. They are attacking the NRA vice president, right, left, upside down and over the top. The man says that Clinton has blood on his hands because the federal government will not prosecute criminals. I believe 100 percent that Clinton is part of the problem. He screams and hollers and complains that we need gun control. We have gun control laws, but he will not prosecute. One person last year was prosecuted l for trying to buy a gun illegally. But yet he is trying to say that close to 200,000 people who are felons are prevented from buying guns. But they go out and buy illegal ones."

"Who was the youngest elected fire chief in Washington County? It was Arnold Martin, of Company 11 of Potomac Valley. He was elected in 1981, when he was 20 years old. It was legal at that time to be under 21. He served and he was a very good fire chief. Now, 19 years later, he is still helping them in Potomac Valley and he is now Assistant Chief. That is my final answer."

"Another shooting March 16 at Noland Village. Children should have the right to play on their playground without dodging bullets. Mayor Bruchey needs to stop telling Sen. Don Munson to shut up and do something on the serious gun and stabbing problems."

"The name of the restaurant that you had in the paper is actually Raelynn's not Raymond's. I am familiar with that waitress and I go there because of her."

"I see where our good governor is angered about the choice he made on the educational clinic. We the people, get angered every time we pull into the gas station. There is nothing that we can do about it."

"I would also like a Wal-Mart here on Md. 64 and many more. I have been out here for 40 years and we have never had any nice department stores or anything around here. If you could find a way to bring some out here, it would be very nice."

"How can you stop cats and dogs from coming into your yard? I keep cleaning it up every couple of days and they mess it up again and dig up my yard. What can I put down to keep the dogs and cats away that will not hurt them? I don't want to hurt them. I just want to keep them out of my yard."

"The Trinity Lutheran Youth Yard Sale will be held Saturday, April 8, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Long Meadow Shopping Center."

"In response to the person who said that a 20 -year-old person cannot have the experience to be a fire chief. Well 20 years ago, you didn't need that kind of experience in Washington County. He was experienced and his name was Arnold Martin."

"Yes, he was 20 years old, yes he was experienced and a very efficient fire chief. I think people should know who it was and he was Arnold Martin of Potomac Valley Fire Company."

"Haven Lutheran Church is having a silent auction on Saturday, March 25, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the church on 1035 Haven Road. The public is welcome to come and bid on the many interesting items."
