Action on proposed development tabled until next month

March 17, 2000

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - The Jefferson County Planning Commission on Tuesday tabled any action on a proposed 236-unit housing development until its April 11 meeting.

According to the commission's staff, Shepherdstown's sewer system capacity for the project has not been confirmed. Developer Ken Lowe is awaiting a letter from the sewer board there, which will meet April 4.

The planning commission held a public hearing Tuesday night. There will not be a public hearing at the April 11 meeting, but written comments will be accepted until April 3.

Lowe is considering building single-family homes, duplexes, townhouses, apartments and commercial buildings on 60 acres between W.Va. 45 and W.Va. 480, but has said he may not build at all.

The project is still in the conceptual stage, according to the commission's staff.
