Mail Call for 3/16

March 16, 2000

"I am calling about the Census 2000. Do I have to fill it out? If I do not, will I be arrested? What will they do if I refuse to fill it out or just throw it away? Someone from the Census Bureau or a Mail Caller, call and let me know."

"To the person who is complaining about the new cartoon that was shown on Channel 25, called, 'God, the Devil and Bob.' Before you start complaining about what is shown on TV, you need to just turn off your TV. It is called freedom of speech."

"My husband and I went out to eat at a little restaurant in Williamsport called Raymond's Restaurant. I wanted to say that the little waitress that they had, her name was Lee. She was the sweetest waitress we have ever had. She was so attentive. I always believe that good work deserves recognition. She is an excellent waitress and I recommend anyone to go there."

"I want to wish a happy birthday to my daughter Mary on March 31, granddaughter Faith on March 18, great granddaughter Tressa on March 19. Love you all, Mom and Grandma."

"Apparently the person who blames the Democrats for passing the laws in the state of Maryland and picking the judges that let criminals go hasn't voted for a while or they would know that we don't pull the levers around here anymore."

"In regards to the comment in Mail Call about the 20-year-old fire chief. This is indicative of the state of the fire service in Washington County. No way can a 20-year-old have the experience to be an efficient fire chief."

"I see in Tuesday's paper where this man gets 90 days in a child sex case. He should have gotten much more than that and when he gets out, they should notify the people that he is on the streets. As far as this being an accident, it wasn't no accident. It also said that the parents should get the child help. No, this person that done this should pay for the child's help. He is the one that caused all of this to that poor little girl and he should pay for it, not the parents."

"In loving memory of Aleshia Diane, on March 12, 1999. God took someone very special to us away. Not only leaving behind a little girl, Miriah Elizabeth, a family she loved and lived with. Each day is so hard, seeing her picture with her beautiful smile and hearing her laugh. It has been one long year, but she knows we loved her. Now she is our guardian angel. Sadly missed forever and always loved, daughter Miriah, Russell, Marilyn, Jim and J.W. Randall."

"I am calling about the autopsy video that has been advertised on TV. If you have a chance to get it, don't. It is not worth it. It is a 50-minute tape and 45 minutes of it is people talking. It is not good. Four people at my house have seen it. It is not worth the $25.90 that you paid to get it. Then they don't want to take it back. So if you want to get it, don't."

"I am calling about the corner of Jonathan and North streets. I lived in Hagerstown for 30 years and it was the first time I went up on the corner and there wasn't any drug dealers up there. So the mayor must be doing his job."

"The North Hagerstown High School Class of 1980 is looking for the following people to complete a roster for a reunion: John Bell, Jennifer Boost, Alan Burkholder, Fred Cunningham, Mary Margaret Miller, Michael Miller, Karen Moffitt Scott, Mickey Otzelberger, Scott Ryan, Gloria Norris, Julie Spickler and Tina Waters. If you have any information about these guys please call Tina Rice at 301-797-1932."

"I just wanted to thank our president and our governor. I just bought a case of beer, a carton of cigarettes and a tank of gas and my paycheck is all gone."

"Mayor Bruchey's childish comments about Sen. Munson was uncalled for. If the mayor thinks that a campus downtown would succeed then he is as narrow-minded as Gov. Glendening. We had a relatively mild winter, but could you imagine fighting for a parking space, the pitiful way the streets looked this winter? Not to mention the crime rate. I would not send a child of mine to this college. We need to forget politics and do what is right for our children."

"Why don't they bring a Wal-Mart in the Md. 64 area near Smithsburg? It would be appreciated, thank you."

"Who does Bob Bruchey think he is? Don Munson has done more for the people of Hagerstown than Bruchey will ever do. I have granddaughters and I will not send them down to that college. It is too dangerous."

"I see Mr. Blenckstone is at it again. With either do what I say or we are moving out. Well, let him move out. We are in too much debt now to be able to afford this new stadium. Let them play in the old stadium."

"Sen. Munson has done more for Washington County than the mayor has ever done for Hagerstown."

"I am calling about the mayor's comment telling Don Munson to shut up. I think Don Munson knows more about politics than Bruchey ever will know. I think he is the one that needs to shut up."
