Elsie M. Sword

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Elsie M. Sword, 81, of 6181 Charlestown Road, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2000, at Fulton County Medical Center, McConnellsburg, Pa.

Born Aug. 8, 1918, in Mercersburg, she was the daughter of the late Walker C. and Carrie Gearhart Diffenderfer.

Her husband, Roy F. Sword, died Sept. 3, 1967.

She was a former employee of Mercersburg Sewing Factory.

She was a member of Clayton Memorial Church of God, Mercersburg.

She is survived by a daughter, Shirley J. Eutzy of Mercersburg; two sons, Harold L. Sword of Mercersburg and Cheryl D. Sword of Fort Loudon, Pa.; a sister, Rebecca Goshorn of Mercersburg; a brother, Donald C. Diffenderfer of Mercersburg; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth E. Diffenderfer; a sister and two brothers.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Clayton Memorial Church of God. The Revs. Paul W. Nolan, Eleanor Verrico and Floyd E. Myers will officiate. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery, Lemasters, Pa.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home Inc., 47 N. Park Ave., Mercersburg and Wednesday one hour prior to the service at the church.

Myrtle V. Wilson

Myrtle V. Wilson, 103, formerly of Showalter Road, died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2000, at Colton Villa Nursing Center, Hagerstown.

Born Dec. 8, 1896, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late William F. and Ida Mae McCurdy Bailey.

Her first husband, Howard B. Harbaugh, died in 1962. Her second husband, Oyer B. Wilson, died in 1979.

She was employed with Rosens for 22 years, retiring in 1965.

She was a member of Christ's Reformed Church United Church of Christ, Hagerstown.

She is survived by a daughter, Donna E. Rodgers of Hagerstown; a sister, Thelma E. Funk of Hagerstown; six grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons, William B. Harbaugh and Harry N. Harbaugh.

Services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Don Stevenson will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Tuesday one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.

Hattie Hancock

Hattie Hancock, 92, a resident of Colton Villa Nursing Center, Hagerstown, died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2000, at Washington County Hospital.

Born March 2, 1907, in Sharpsburg, she was the daughter of the late John Henry and Nettie Kate Spong Hines.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin C. Hancock.

She was employed by Washington County Hospital and prior to that she was employed at Hagerstown Shoe Co.

She was a former member of Washington Square United Methodist Church.

She is survived by one niece, Nellie M. Brown Hull of Las Vegas; great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Kretzer and Martha Hines; and three brothers, John Hines, David Hines and Charles Hines.

Services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, 40 E. Antietam St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Louis L. Emerick will officiate. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery, Sharpsburg.

The family will receive friends Tuesday one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.

Jack B. Gunderman

Jack Burnell Gunderman, 83, of 13551 Paradise Church Road, died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2000, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Aug. 21, 1916, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Elmer Glen and Mary A. Davis Gunderman.

He attended Carnegie Tech and was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh.

He was employed by IBM, Fairchild, and the U.S. Public Health Service.

He was a member of Hagerstown Presbyterian Church.

He was a member of American Radio Relay League and has held an amateur radio operator's license since 1929.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jane A. Gunderman; two daughters, Jo Anne Bessom of Tahlequah, Okla., and Mary Karen Renninger of Rockville, Md.; a son, Lee B. Gunderman of Queensland, Australia; and eight grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown. The Rev. John W. Ailstock will officiate.

There will be no viewing or visitation.

Minh T. Tran

Minh Thi Tran, 48, of 13531 Halifax Drive, Hagerstown, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2000, at her home.

Born Feb. 5, 1952, in Nam Dinh, North Vietnam, she was the daughter of the late Nung and Muy Dang Dal.

She was employed by Good Humor/Bryers in Hagerstown.

She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church.
