MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - The manager of Fazoli's restaurant on Foxcroft Avenue was robbed and beaten in the restaurant's parking late Monday, according to Martinsburg City Police.

The manager, whose name is being withheld by police for his protection, was leaving the restaurant shortly after 11 p.m. when a masked man and another person struck him in the head and body with baseball bats, police said.

The manager was treated at City Hospital for a head laceration and released, according to police.

The robbers stole a black leather satchel from him and ran toward the Martinsburg Mall, police said.

Sgt. George Swartwood declined to say what was inside the satchel.

"We've followed up leads and additional information, but we don't have any suspects at this time," he said.

Police dogs from the Martinsburg Police Department and the West Virginia State Police tracked the robbers behind County Market on Loweland Drive before losing the scent, Swartwood said.

Police found a black baseball bat behind the store at about 10 a.m. Tuesday. Swartwood said the bat will be sent to a crime lab for analysis.

Police described one of the suspects as a white man, standing about 5 feet, 10 inches tall, weighing 150 to 160 pounds and wearing a ski mask and parka. No description was available for the second.

Anyone with information about the crime may call police at 304-264-2100.
