Account set up for fire victims

February 04, 2000

In the wake of Tuesday night's devastating fire on George Street, Stephen Westfall and his wife, Lea, have established a bank account for the Reilly family, who lost everything in that blaze.

"They are our neighbors and friends," said Stephen Westfall, who lives at 627 George St., almost directly across the street from Thomas Reilly and his family.

Those interested in mailing donations to the Reilly Fire Relief Fund should direct them to Home Federal Savings Bank, c/o Sareen Hebb, 126 W. Washington St., Hagerstown, MD 21740.

Walk-ins may contribute to the fund at any Home Federal branch, he said.

The account number is 011468370.

The family is staying with Thomas Reilly's sister in Hagerstown. Donations of clothing, furniture and other items may be directed to the Reillys' daughter at 531 Salem Ave., first floor.

"We have gotten calls from people from other states who want to give clothing and furniture," Stephen Westfall said. "It's amazing."

The fire at 620-622 George St. may have been caused by a faulty cord to a refrigerator, fire investigators said Thursday.
