Thurmont man dies in crash

FREDERICK, Md. - A Thurmont, Md., man died and three other people were injured when two cars collided on U.S. 15 at Franklinville Road Wednesday evening, Maryland State Police in Frederick said.

Police said a 1989 Chevrolet Cavalier driven by Arnold Guy Johnson was crossing U.S. 15 from Franklinville Road when it collided with a 1999 Avalon traveling north on U.S. 15 at 6:07 p.m.

The Avalon was driven by Paul Rosenthal, 45, of Harrisburg, Pa., police said.

Grover Cleveland Hughes, 42, a passenger in Johnson's car, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Johnson was traveling with Hughes and one other passenger, Douglas Wayne Wolfe, 40, of Thurmont.

Johnson was taken to Frederick Memorial Hospital and was still being treated in the emergency room Wednesday night.

Wolfe was in critical condition at Washington County Hospital, a spokeswoman said.

Rosenthal was taken to the Gettysburg (Pa.) Hospital, police said. His condition was unavailable.
