Michael Shepel

BRADDOCK HEIGHTS, Md. - Michael Shepel, of Braddock Heights, died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2000.

Born in 1924, he was the son of the late George and Emma Shepel.

He was a 1943 graduate of Aliquippa (Pa.) High School. He earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in science from the University of Pittsburgh.

He was employed as a microbiologist by the U.S. Army at Edgewood Arsenal and Fort Detrick, and acquired several patents for the U.S. government. After retiring in 1989, he operated a specialty food preparation business.

He served in the U.S. Air Force, assigned to the 500th Bombardment Group in the western Pacific, and flew on 33 missions against Japan. He earned the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with four oakleaf clusters.

He was a member of American Association of Microbiologists; and Eagles Club of Frederick, Md.

He is survived by his wife, Sophie Shepel; two daughters, Marlene Powell of Boonsboro, and Susan Lotfi of Greencastle, Pa.; one son, Robert Shepel of Hagerstown; one sister, Nellie Lampich of Aliquippa, Pa.; one brother, George Shepel of Beaver Falls, Pa.; five grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Elijah Serbian Orthodox Church, 2200 Main St., Aliquippa.

A viewing will be held at Mastrofrancesco Funeral Home, 2026 McMinn St., Aliquippa, today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

The Eight Day Memorial Service will be held Saturday, Jan. 22, at 6 p.m., at St. Catherine Orthodox Church, 433 Liberty St., Hagerstown.

The Forty Day Memorial Service will be held Saturday, Feb. 19, at 6 p.m., at St. Catherine Orthodox Church, 433 Liberty St., Hagerstown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Frederick County, St. Catherine Orthodox Church of Hagerstown, St. Luke Serbian Orthodox Church of McClean, Va., or St. Elijah Serbian Orthodox Church of Aliquippa.

Charlotte L. Biser

MIDDLETOWN, Md. - Charlotte Louise Biser, 64, of 8210B Bolivar Road, died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2000, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Jan. 14, 1935, in Middletown, she was the daughter of the late Millard and Opal Bircher Sines.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Biser.

She is survived by her companion, Charles W. Stambaugh; two daughters, Linda Payne of Hagerstown and Brenda Frye of Boonsboro; a stepdaughter, Diane Stambaugh of Hagerstown; a stepson, Charles Stambaugh of Hagerstown; three sisters, Ruby Gouker of Rockville, Md., Dottie Poole of Gaithersburg, Md. and Marjorie Rutherford of Hagerstown; three brothers, Robert H. Sines Sr. of Hagerstown, James Sines of Hagerstown and Millard Sines Jr. of Brunswick, Md.; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Donald B. Thompson Funeral Home, 31 E. Main St. in Middletown. The Rev. William M. Bucher will officiate. Burial will be in Lutheran Cemetery in Middletown.

Friends may call today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Evelyn Marie Gigeous

WILLIAMSPORT - Evelyn Marie Gigeous, 75, of 216 E. Potomac St., died Thursday, Jan. 13, 2000, at her home.

Born Jan. 21, 1924, in Williamsport, she was the daughter of the late Percy McKendrick and Carrie Rhea Cline Murray.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Mason Paul Gigeous, in 1971.

She was a 1942 graduate of Williamsport High School; and a 1944 graduate of Hagerstown Business College.

She and her husband owned and operated Gigeous Groceries in Williamsport. She worked for General Motors Parts in Martinsburg, W.Va. until retiring in 1991.

She was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Williamsport.

She was a member of Williamsport Democratic Club.

She is survived by a daughter, Kathy A. Gigeous, at home; two sons, Murray Douglas Gigeous, at home and Steven P. Gigeous of Williamsport; a sister, Lois Elaine Murray of Baltimore; and a grandson.

She was preceded in death by a brother, William E. Murray.

A memorial service will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 35 W. Potomac St. in Williamsport. The Rev. W. Gregory Martin will officiate.

Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

There will be no viewing.

The family requests the omission of flowers.

Memorial donations may be made to Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 35 W. Potomac St., Williamsport, MD 21795.

Virginia O. Foltz

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Virginia O. Foltz, 72, of Martinsburg, died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2000, at her home.

Born Nov. 16, 1927, in Independence, Va., she was the daughter of the late Robert D. and Laura C. Robbins Osborne.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer P. Foltz, in 1972.

She retired from Berkeley County Committee on Aging.

She was a member of Little Falls Presbyterian Church in Falling Waters, W.Va.

She was a member of Chapter No. 738, Women of the Moose.
