Date change granted for Battle of Funkstown re-enactment

January 11, 2000

FUNKSTOWN - Organizers of the annual Battle of Funkstown re-enactment asked for and were granted a date change for this year's event by the Funkstown Mayor and Town Council on Monday night.

Barbara Benedict, who organizers the event with husband Ron Benedict, asked that the event be rescheduled for June 24 and 25, later in the month than her husband originally requested.

She said they had chosen the first date before finding out that a number of the event's "regulars" - one of the commanders - would be attending a huge Civil War-era parade re-enactment elsewhere.

The Town Council approved the date change by consensus.

The re-enactment has traditionally been held in June but was moved to July 17 and 18 last year because of a conflict with a large-scale Civil War re-enactment.
