Hedgesville sitting in mat second place

SHENANDOAH JUNCTION, W.Va. - Fairmont Senior leads after the quarterfinal round Friday night of the 12-team Jefferson Invitational with 107 points.

Hedgesville, with 78 1/2 points, is second, advancing Kevin Ballam (103 pounds), Jason Drappo (112), Dustin Bowers (119), Danny Lord (125), Jim Shetler (130), Bryan Moats (140), Anthony Regalbuto (145), and Justin Snyder (152). Second-seed John Dunham (160) was upset by Brian Phipp of Loudoun Valley. Dunham had the match won with three seconds left when Phipp reversed him for the victory.

Jefferson is fourth with 68 points. Ryan Smith (103), Chantz Griffin (112), Ryan Peckham (119), Devin Abshire (130), Jacob Morton (171), Drew Day (215) andDustin Householder (275) all advanced.

Martinsburg, tied for sixth place with 40 points, advances Justin Kessler (135), Travis Durst (152), Brad Davis (160) and Joe Jackson (171).

Musselman, in 10th place, advances Victor Beard, while Greencastle, in 11th place, advances Rich Polifka (130).

In local matchups today, top-seed Ballam takes on Smith, Shetler faces Polifka, and Snyder takles a much-taller Durst. Semi-finals are scheduled for 1, with the finals at 7.

Thus far, however, the tournament has been running ahead of schedule.
