January 03, 2000

LITTLE ORLEANS, Md. - A 10-year-old Berkeley Springs, W.Va., boy was killed and his cousin was critically injured Sunday when the all-terrain vehicle they were in slammed head-on into a car in Allegany County.

Andrew Morgan Eader was driving the four-wheel, motorcycle-like vehicle on the wrong side of the road near Little Orleans Sunday at about 1:20 p.m. when it hit an oncoming car, said Maryland State Police Trooper William Frye.

Eader and his passenger, Shawn Lynn Cretzer, 9, were thrown from the all-terrain vehicle. Neither boy was wearing a helmet or seat belt, police said.

Both boys were flown to Cumberland Memorial Hospital.

Eader died soon after his arrival at the hospital. Cretzer, his 9-year-old cousin, remained in critical condition Monday night, according to a hospital spokeswoman.
