December 28, 1999

Western Maryland will have another voice on the state Senate committee that oversees spending.

Sen. John J. Hafer, R-Allegany/Garrett, has been appointed to the Senate Budget and Taxation Committee. Sen. Donald F. Munson, R-Washington, also is on the committee.

"I am proud to say that, in the spirit of inclusiveness, the Senate's budget committee now has representatives from the westernmost point of Maryland to the beaches of the Eastern Shore, and all points in between," said Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller Jr., who made the appointment.

Hafer will fill the seat held by Sen. James E. DeGrange Sr., D-Anne Arundel, who is moving into Hafer's old seat on the Senate Finance Committee.
