Santa will assist last-minute mailers

Hagerstown Postmaster Keith Guerrin, along with Santa Claus, will receive last-minute letters in the lobby of the main office at 44 W. Franklin St. on Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. to noon.

The main office will close Dec. 24 and New Year's Eve at 2 p.m. The Northern Avenue station will close at noon on both days. Express Mail will be delivered on Christmas Day.

Also, a new contract station for customers of Allegany Business Consulting at 17611 Virginia Ave. will replace the contract station at Eakle's Drug, which closed last June.

Hours at the new station will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Stay off Potomac, DNR warns boaters

High water on the Potomac River following recent rains has prompted the Maryland Department of Natural Resources to warn area residents against boating on the river.

Creeks and streams should also be avoided, the DNR said.

Potomac River levels are hazardous from Paw Paw, W.Va., downstream to Little Falls and at Millville, W.Va., the DNR said.
