Inmate pleads guilty to carrying concealed weapon

December 16, 1999

An inmate at the state prison complex south of Hagerstown pleaded guilty in Washington County Circuit Court Thursday to carrying a concealed weapon.

Washington County Circuit Judge Donald E. Beachley sentenced Allen Leron Murdock, 21, to six months in prison consecutive to the time he is already serving.

The weapon was found on Murdock during a random patdown in the prison yard on Aug. 31, Assistant State's Attorney Susan Lochbaum said.

Murdock claimed he bought the weapon, a piece of metal with a sharpened point and makeshift handle, for his own protection for $6 in the prison yard, Lochbaum said.

He hadn't used the weapon to hurt or threaten anyone, she said.

Murdock, from the Baltimore area, is serving 15 years for drug possession with intent to distribute, Lochbaum said.
